The Making of Waffles



Waffles are believed to have originated in the province of Brabant or what’s known today as Belgium, where they are often called Brussels, Liege or Belgian waffles. Waffles are generally made of flour, baking powder, milk, sugar and butter that are beaten together to form a nice batter. These dough-based cakes are cooked in special cooking equipment called waffle maker. The warmth and delicate taste of waffles perfectly suits the freshness and breeze in the morning, this is why waffles are commonly served during breakfast. Waffles are a fulfilling dish that will satisfy your tongues and tummies. They can be served with a variety of toppings like butter, honey, syrups, strawberries, bananas, chocolate and even ice creams.
Nowadays, waffles have prevailed beyond the breakfast table, and become a conventional part of several dishes served at any meal. Chefs around the world are continuously experimenting with newer recipes of waffles and incorporating new ingredients into the waffle batter.

Classic Waffle Recipe: Easy Stuff
Now let’s make waffles the easy way. Here’s how. Your waffles are ready in 15 

minutes. This is a classic recipe of waffles; many people can swear it yields excellent results- delicate, sumptuous waffles with good texture.

Serves: 5,
Preparation Time: 10 min., cooking time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
  •  2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups warm milk
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, baking powder and sugar. Set aside while preheating the waffle iron to preferred temperature.
In another mixing bowl, beat the eggs thoroughly. Pour the milk, butter and vanilla into the milk. Slowly pour this mixture into the flour mixture, and beat to form a nice batter.
Scoop the batter into the preheated waffle iron. Cook the waffles until golden and crisp. Top with your favorite toppings – strawberries, chocolates, honey, butter, maple syrup or ice cream.
Serve while they’re still warm!
 How to Make Waffles with Filling
Now if you’ve already tried the classic waffle recipe, and you’ve had enough with waffles during breakfast, why not try making the non-classic waffles? The classic waffles are good but plain, now if you want to try something different, you can make your own waffles and fill them with rich chocolate, or any filling you want. These would be something new, a non-classic one! Then, you can serve these waffles for desserts and snacks or at any meal of the day! Here’s how to make classic waffles.

Waffle Chocolate Filling Ingredients
  • 2 cups fresh milk
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  •  1/2 cup white sugar
  •  1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 tablespoon butter
Instructions:
Place a medium-sized sauce pan over medium heat. Pour all the ingredients in it and blend well. Cook mixture until thick while stirring continuously. Remove from heat and set aside for a few minutes, allowing it to cool just a bit.
Pour the chocolate mixture in a food pipe and dig it into the waffles to fill them with the mixture.
 Tip: If you want to use jam filling, use a food syringe upon filling in the waffles.

  1. Belgian waffles are likely to go down a storm is in hotels and Bed & Breakfast facilities. In these places waffles may not only be bought as a delicious dessert, but customers may also like the idea of having them for breakfast, or as snacks throughout the day.
